Shillong is a hill station in northeast India and capital of the state of Meghalaya. It’s known for the manicured gardens at Lady Hydari Park. Nearby, Ward’s Lake is surrounded by walking trails. Shillong has a subtropical highland climate. Heavy rains are typical of the May–Sep monsoon season. Nov–Mar offers dry winter weather, with mild days and cool nights. Popular months to visit include May–Jul, Oct and Dec. The Khasi tribe celebrates the Shad Shuk Mynsiem Festival (Apr) with indigenous dancing, music and costumes. The Shillong Autumn Festival (Nov) showcases the region’s traditional cultures and offers diverse family-oriented entertainment. Christmas (Dec) features street decorations, markets and carol singing.
